Subversion of the cellular autophagy pathway by viruses.
Autophagy is a cellular process that creates double-membraned vesicles, engulfs and degrades cytoplasmic material, and generates and recycles nutrients. A recognized participant in the innate immune response to microbial infection, a functional autophagic response can help to control the replication of many viruses. However, for several viruses, there is functional and mechanistic evidence that...
متن کاملTransformation of Anaplasma phagocytophilum
BACKGROUND Tick-borne pathogens cause emerging zoonoses, and include fastidious organisms such as Anaplasma phagocytophilum. Because of their obligate intracellular nature, methods for mutagenesis and transformation have not been available. RESULTS To facilitate genetic manipulation, we transformed A. phagocytophilum (Ap) to express a green fluorescent protein (GFP) with the Himar1 transposas...

متن کاملAnaplasma phagocytophilum–infected Ticks, Japan
We report Anaplasma phagocytophilum infection of Ixodes persulcatus and I. ovatus ticks in Japan. Unique p44/msp2 paralogs (and/or 16S rRNA genes) were detected in tick tissues, salivary glands, and spleens of experimentally infected mice. These findings indicate the public health threat of anaplasmosis in Japan.
متن کاملOn Anaplasma phagocytophilum in Horses
Equine Granulocytic Anaplasmosis (EGA) is an acute tick-borne infection caused by Anaplasma phagocytophilum. The bacterium can infect various animal species and humans. Persistence of infection is documented in ruminants and is shown experimentally in dogs, but it is unknown whether it occurs in horses or if EGA induces longer-term clinical changes in horses. This thesis includes results and an...
